Fall and Holiday Peek

Within the next few days I’ll be posting the new fall and winter/holiday collection. For my fall collection my inspiration came from the idea of simplicity, but uniqueness and how to infuse both of those ideas.  Loving the way geometric shapes look I found a way to blend into something simple with a bit different.  I’m completely addicted to things that are textured.  It gives a little edge to something that’s modern.

 

As for the Holiday collection I wanted something more shimmery, but still with a little modern edge.  I decided to try out using pyrite, also know as fool’s gold.  It has such a shimmer to it that I love, plus I think it looks great against the antique brushed brass.

3 Ways to Lessen Tarnish on Your Metal Jewelry

Most of us wear some sort of metal jewelry on a daily basis.  Whether it’s your favorite silver necklace or cute silver stud earrings, there’s one thing we all HATE…it’s the dark gray stuff called tarnish.  Now if you wear your metal jewelry daily, it’s a good idea to clean it every now and then, I recommend every 3-4 months.  There’s no 100% way to prevent tarnish, it happens to all metal jewelry pieces, but there are ways to slow down the tarnishing process.  Here are 3 easy and inexpensive ways to help lessen the tarnish on your jewelry pieces.

1.  Anti-Tarnish Strips or Cloth

These are a wonderful low cost investment.  You can purchase either the strips or the cloth and line your jewelry box.  I personally prefer the cloth since I have my jewelry stored in various jewelry boxes.  Be sure not to wash the cloth–it will lose its anti-tarnishing properties if you do.  You can also use these strips and cloth on sterling silver, silver plate, brass, copper and bronze metal jewelry.

2.  Zip lock plastic bags

You can go right to your kitchen pantry or cupboard to get these.  However, I like the smaller ones which you can pick up at Michaels or Walmart.  It’s a good idea to store 1 item of jewelry per a bag.  Be sure that you squeeze all the air out of the bag when zipping the bag closed.

3. Clear top coat nail polish

This should NOT be used on your fine silver or sterling silver jewelry.  I only use this on my brass, copper and bronze jewelry.  Be sure to use nice thin coats and you can apply 2-3 times.  As far a re-applying, it depends on how often you wear your metal jewelry.  If you wear your jewelry on a daily basis, you can reapply every 2 months or so.

Jewelry Tip of the Week: Cleaning Metal Jewelry

Brass and copper are two of my favorite metals to work with.  I love creating jewelry designs with these metals.  One of the downfalls is that over a time they begin to change color and tarnish.  Like any other precious jewelry pieces, even your costume jewelry needs cleaning every now and then.  By cleaning them and storing them away properly you will help to preserve your jewels.  Here’s a simple cleaning solution that will make your copper and brass metal jewelry look as good as new and they can be found right in your kitchen and bathroom.

1 tsp. of salt

1/4 cup of white vinegar

1 pea size of toothpaste

soft cloth (terry cloth or old t-shirt)

Combine the salt and vinegar in a cup or shallow bowl and stir until salt dissolves. Drop copper or brass jewelry into solution and let sit anywhere from 2-5 minutes. Rinse jewelry with lukewarm water then dry and polish with cloth.  Drop a pea size of toothpaste onto your metal jewelry and use cloth to rub in toothpaste.  Rinse with lukewarm water and shine with cloth.

Summer Jewelry is Here

My Summer Collection is finally completed—whew! I have to say this collection was the most challenging for me, reason being I had a hard time finding the right inspiration.  People think inspiration will just come to you, but sometimes it needs to be stirred.  For this collection I wanted something bold, yet timeless.  I must say I’m VERY pleased with the results.  Here’s a peek at one of the items I just posted on my Etsy site.  This Blue and Brown Flower Statement Necklace took me a while to construct; each petal was created out of a silk fabric.  Stay tuned our Summer Launch!
