My Etsy Store Pick of the Week: My Lovely Suitcase

Tell me briefly about your Etsy store:
I sell a variety of things in my shop both vintage and handmade. In the vintage section you can find things such as cameras, travel cases and clothes while in the handmade section you can find journals, garlands, confetti, tags and much more.
What’s the story behind your craft?
My story is a creative mess that was and still is taking over the floor of my bedroom haha. I thought that having an Etsy shop would not only be an option for extra money but also would be an enjoyable one and well yes it would also be an excuse for why I have such a mess on my floor…
What are your greatest inspirations?
Well I would say other Etsy shops for sure as well as blogs.
What gets you going creatively?
I find myself in creativity block all to often, the best I can do for that is just start creating anyway. Even if it’s bad it gets me creating and eventually end up making wonderful things to restock my shop with.

My Picks for NYFW

As many designers gathered at New York City’s Fashion Week unveiling their Spring 2011 collections down the runway, many showed fabulous colors and designs.  As this notorious adventurous event comes to an end, I’ve picked out some of my cute favs.  Although there were many more, these are some of the ones I found to be cute and fitting to me that I could see myself indulging in.   Enjoy!

Lubica Slovak Dress

Lubica Slovak Dress

One of my favorite designers the “Slovak Jamaican” Lubica Slovak has teamed up with one of my favorite singers, Tami Chynn and created the most edgy and girly apparel collection ever.  Bubbling with excitement, I personally cannot wait until the collection is released.  Unveiling the collection on April 7th, Lubica’s designs are definitely must “haves” for the summer.

Fashion for Youth

I just love it when fashionable people become innovators of great things for the betterment of the community.  That is exactly what NIRO, a couture fashion boutique based out of Hartford, CT, is doing in the community.  Not only is this boutique a haven for capturing the best styles for their customers, they have also established a Design Center for youths in the community.  At NIRO Design Center, youths are given the foundation and tools on what it takes to not only become successful in fashion, but how to be successful in almost anything.  On Friday, December 11th NIRO will be hosting the 2009 Fashion Designer Awards in Hartford.  Support this wonderful organization by voting for your favorite nominees.  For tickets to this event contact NIRO directly at (860) 724-NIRO. Proceeds from this event will help support the NIRO Design Center for youth.

Stephanie Sweater-$70

Stephanie Sweater-$70

My pick for the “Etsy Store of the Week,” is Isla Luna.  Based out of New York City this college graduate is really in it for the long haul with her amazingly cute designs.  One of my favorite items in her Etsy Store is the pictured Stephanie sweater.  I particularly love the gold toned punk studs along the edge of the sweater.  The sweater is available in various colors.  She also has really adorning skirts.  Check out her store, Isla Luna.

QVC tapped Isaac Mizrahi

Yep it looks like the fashion diva himself will have a new show on QVC.  Looks like the station has had a dip in sales (but then again who hasn’t), so they tapped Isaac Mizrahi to help boost their sales.  If you’ve seen The Fashion Show, you know that Isaac is without a doubt entertaining.  Lets see how it works on QVC.

MJ Style

The world knows him as the King of Pop, but I also saw him as a Prince of Style.  Over the years the great MJ has wowed us with various looks and styles.  With many notable styles, there are quite a few that stand out.  I remember always waiting with anticipation of each of his albums just to see what MJ was wearing on the cover.  I’ve seen a lot of great stars pass away during my “near 3 decades,” but I have to say that I will definitely miss Michael Jackson.  Here are my favorite MJ style moments.  As always I hope you enjoy them!

Digital Fashionista

We hear other women say all the time, “I can’t live without my blackberry,” or
“Damn—I forgot my cell phone at home—what am I going to do.”  Fashionista have become so equipped and dependent upon cell phones, PDAs, iPhones and etc;  I was surfing on my Touch the other day and downloaded an application from Lucky! magazine that I thought was so useful and ingenious.  This application allows the fellow fashionista to surf the picture archives of the many accessories, apparel and shoes that is featured in the current issue of Lucky! magazine and gives the location, price and availability of the product.  You can even reserve the merchandise and just pick up at the store.  I was even able to make a purchase right on my Touch.  Digital devices just make it so convenient for one to get what they want when they want.

Even Sony unveiled the cute and clever “clutch,” which I thought was a clever idea indeed.  In fact if I didn’t have a Mac I probably would have broken down and purchased one just because of its cuteness.  Adding the cherry to the top of the sundae, Sony stores nationwide sent out a e-letter to fellow fashionistas invited them to their stores for a “Girls Night Out,” to test out the little clutch device.  Also if you haven’t seen Vivienne Tam’s clutch design from HP, it’s also definitely a plus.

Let’s also not forget about social networking sites like Twitter which is also a trend among the digitally savvy fashionista.  My newest fix however is stylehive.com.

I was surfing the SCAD store online today and came across some really, really cool wearable art.  One of the many I adored was this dress by Brooklyn native, Jenny Little.  Its a one size fits all and comes in eithe olive or asphalt.  Looks like the perfect summer dress.
