Entries from July 2008

As a fellow Etsian myself I know what a challenge it is getting your shop’s name out there and drive traffic to your store. Last week I did a blog entry on jewelry boxes and instead of looking for an already established business that sells jewelry boxes I found a fellow Etsian and feature their shop in my blog entry. Well, I’ve decided to keep that going, beginning next week I will be posting an article on my blog featuring a piece from an Etsy store as one of my blog entries for that week. I figure it’s a great way to help us promote each other and extend our customer and network base. So if you have an Etsy shop and would like to be featured on The Pink Locket blog, email me your name and Etsy store name.

I’ve always been fascinated with jewelry boxes. Not only are they perfect for storing your most precious jewelry, but they also look really nice on your dresser top. If you’re a girl like me, then you probably have anywhere from 3 to 4 jewelry boxes, since it’s almost impossible to have just 1 that fits every piece of jewelry you own. I like to keep my jewelry separate from each other. For instance, I have 1 box for all my gold, 1 for silver, 1 for costume and 1 for beaded jewelry. I keep them all in visible sight in my closet so that I can open the boxes and view the pieces while getting dressed. Check out these beautiful handmade jewelry boxes from a fellow Etsian Design Hut USA at http://designhutusa.etsy.com or www.designhut.us.

Jewelry Feature of the Week

This week’s feature is the Travel The Seas ring. This sea blue artisan beaded ring collides with a teal beaded band spelling “hot” in its own way. Apart of the Chic Summer collection the colors of this piece are reminiscent of the various ocean colors. Sold Exclusively on thepinklocket.com.

Summertime is here and we all want to show it in our very own special way. When I think of summer the first images that come to mind are the sun, beautiful weather and beaches. This necklace reminds me of the summertime with the variations of yellow beads holding up a mother of pearl shattered flower. As a part of the Chic Summer Line, Sunrise Pearl is a necklace that can be worn casually or will make a perfect piece with a semi-formal outfit. Exclusively sold by The Pink Locket.

This weekend I had the honor of speaking to a few of my fellow Pink Locket shoppers, who have expressed interest in purchasing more fabulous jewelry pieces. I understand that this economy has us all going nuts! And it just seems that we can’t get a deal anywhere we turn…especially at the gas pump!
Beginning this Friday, July 11th The Pink Locket will be marking down its older jewelry items. Bracelets, Necklaces, Earrings and the fabulous cluster “ring” will all be marked down anywhere from 15%-50%. The sale will run until July 23rd or until the entire sale items are sold. For those Pink Locketeers who missed our summer kick-off sale last month, here’s your chance to get those fabulous pieces at a discounted price.
Until then SHOP PINK!

These crews of bandits are really beginning to hurt small boutique businesses in Atlanta. For the past year, many women’s and men’s boutique in the Atlanta metro area have been burglarized by these bandits, who have stolen designer jeans retailing at $200 and selling them on the black market for as low as $70. Talk about a deeply discounted product.
With most boutiques being hit more than once, these thefts are severely affecting the businesses and some boutique owners say if they are hit again by these perpetrators they will have to close their business. Some of the most popular brands targeted are True Religion, Rock N Republic, Citizens of Humanity, Red Monkey and Evisu. In one hit these thieves are getting away with on average about $100,000 in merchandise. Some business owners have had to pay to hire security guards and not mention their insurance premiums have nearly tripled.
Since I’m a solution minded person, I came up with a possible solution. Here goes, let me know what you think….
- Discontinue the sale of designer jeans in these boutiques and let your customers know that they are Web Exclusive items that can be ordered via your stores website and only keep samples of each size per brand in the store so that your customer will know what size to order via the web. This will also help drive additional business to the stores site and help boost sales in a tech savvy way.
I know it’s a great feeling as a customer to actual go into the store and walk away with the merchandise. However, I’m one of those customers that loves to shop online and would rather make my purchase this way.

Well I’m sure some of you religious EBayers have already heard. The giant online auction site has been ordered to pay LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessey) $61.3 million for allowing EBay sellers to sell counterfeit handbags and unlawful allowance of the sale of fragrances.
I have to admit not only is it upsetting for a buyer to bid on the handbag of their dreams and wait anxiously for days for the item to arrive to realize they were ripped off, but it also discredits the designers hard-work at building its brand and longevity. That’s not to say that EBay isn’t a good place to find vintage designer handbags because I’ve known a few women who have gotten lucky in that aspect, but sometimes if the price is too good to be true chances are it’s not the “real” thing.

This is a new feature I’m trying out. Since all of the jewelry I create originate from either a feeling or personality with a twist of culture, every week I’m going to feature a new item from my gallery of jewelry pieces and tell the story behind each creation. Here’s the first one, let me know what you think…
I haven’t had a vacation in almost two years. When I mean a vacation…I mean laying on the beach or by poolside, soaking up sun, sipping on a strawberry daiquiri, with the breeze blowing through my curly hair. I call this necklace Cape Coral. The inspiration behind this necklace came from the beach. This jewelry piece represents a carefree yet bold feeling. I think this necklace would accent any dark colored swimwear. Perfect for lounging on the beach to dressing up a summer dress. The color represents the coral reefs of the Caribbean tying in the the blues and greens of the ocean. Now doesn’t this make you want to take a vacation right now….
